Manchester United confident of deal Özil
There’s a new and unexpected leader in the race for Arsenal playmaker Mesut Özil.
The German is out of contract at the end of the season and is expected to leave the Emirates Stadium.
According to the Independent, the former Real Madrid star could end up at Old Trafford.
The key to their approach is José Mourinho, who managed Özil at Real Madrid and maintains a good relationship with the player. The article points out that Mourinho actually wrote the foreword for Özil’s recent autobiography.
With Henrikh Mkhitaryan in very good form and Juan Mata also enjoying himself under Mourinho, it’s not exactly like United need another playmaker.
However, attackers of Özil’s quality are almost never available on free transfers and it’s worth remembering that the German blossomed into a world class player under Mourinho at Madrid.
Plus, United would never turn down an opportunity to draw the ire of Arsenal fans.
